APPENDIX V: SOURCES OF ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Additional information concerning Federal programs and services is available from the sources listed below. The information in this Appendix is in addition to that supplied in Appendix IV (Regional and Local Office Addresses) however; they are not the offices to which an applicant applies for an assistance program. If a potential applicant or information seeker is not certain which agency to contact, there are two types of organizations set up to help: The Federal Information Center Program and the Federal Executive Boards. FEDERAL CITIZEN INFORMATION CENTER PROGRAM The Federal Citizen Information Center Program (FCIC) is a focal point for information about the Federal government. The FCIC assists people who have questions about Federal agencies, services, and programs, but do not know where to turn for an answer. FCIC information specialists either answer an inquirer's question directly, or perform the necessary research to locate and refer the inquirer to the expert best able to help. Telephone users may call the FCIC toll-free on (800) 688-9889 workdays between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m., Eastern Time. TTY users may call toll-free to the FCIC from anywhere in the U.S. by dialing (800) 326-2996. FEDERAL EXECUTIVE BOARDS Federal Executive Boards (FEBs) are composed of heads of Federal field offices in the metropolitan area. The FEBs were established to improve internal Federal management practices, provide a central focus for Federal participation in civic affairs in major metropolitan centers of Federal activity, serve as a means for disseminating information within the Federal government and for promoting discussion of Federal policies and activities of importance to all Federal executives in the field. The FEBS carry out their functions under the supervision of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM). Federal Executive Associations, and Councils, have been locally organized in over 80 other metropolitan areas to perform functions similar to the Federal Executive Boards but on a lesser scale of organization and activity. For further information, contact the Assistant for Field Operations, Office of Personnel Management, Room 5524, 1900 E Street, NW., Washington, DC 20415-0001.Telephone: (202) 6061001.
