4 1 such date, and each shall be placed in a service step as 3 "(2) Each officer or member receiving basic compensa4 tion immediately prior to such effective date at one of the 5 scheduled service rates of subclass (a) or (b) of salary 6 class 2 in the salary schedule in section 101 of this Act in 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 effect on the day next preceding such effective date shall be placed in and receive basic compensation in salary class 2 in the salary schedule in effect on and after such date, and each shall be placed at the respective service step in which he was serving immediately prior to such date. Each officer or member receiving basic compensation immediately prior to such date at one of the scheduled longevity rates of sub class (a) or (b) of salary class 2 in the salary schedule in section 101 of this Act in effect on the day next preceding such effective date shall be placed in and receive basic com pensation in salary class 2 in the salary schedule in effect on and after such date, and each shall be placed in a service step 5 1 "(3) Each officer or member receiving basic compen2 sation immediately prior to such effective date at one of the 3 scheduled service rates of salary class 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9 in 4 the salary schedule in section 101 of this Act in effect on 5 the day next preceding such effective date shall receive a rate 6 of basic compensation at the corresponding scheduled service 7 step and salary class in the salary schedule in effect on and 8 after such date. Each officer or member receiving basic com9 pensation immediately prior to such date at one of the sched10 uled longevity rates of salary class 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9 in the 11 salary schedule in section 101 of this Act in effect on the day next preceding such effective date shall receive basic compensation at the corresponding salary class in the salary 14 schedule in effect on and after such date, and each shall be 12 13 16 Class 6, 7, 8, or 9: Longevity steps A and B. "(4) Each officer or member receiving basic compen17 sation immediately prior to such effective date at one of 18 the scheduled service rates of subclass (a), (b), or (c) of 19 salary class 4 in the salary schedule in section 101 of this 6 1 Act in effect on the day next preceding such effective date 2 shall be placed in and receive basic compensation in salary 3 class 4 in the salary schedule in effect on or after such date, 4 and each shall be placed at the respective service step in 5. which he was serving immediately prior to such date. Each 6 officer or member receiving basic compensation immediately 7 9 10 11 12 prior to such date at one of the scheduled longevity rates of subclass (a), (b), or (c) of salary class 4 in the salary schedule in section 101 of this Act in effect on the day next preceding such effective date shall be placed in and receive basic compensation in salary class 4 in the salary schedule in effect on and after such date, and each shall be placed 14 Longevity steps B and C... "(5) Each officer or member receiving basic compen15 sation immediately prior to such effective date at one of the 16 scheduled service rates of salary class 10 or 11 in the salary 17 schedule in section 101 of this Act in effect on the day next 18 preceding such effective date shall receive a rate of basic 19 compensation at the corresponding scheduled service step 20 and salary class in the salary schedule in effect on and after 21 such date, except that any such officer or member who im22 mediately prior to such date was serving in step 4 of salary 7 1 class 10 or in service step 3 of salary class 11 shall be placed 2 in and receive basic compensation in a service step as 4 (b) Subsection (b) of section 201 of such Act (D.C. 5 Code, sec. 4-824 (b)) is amended to read as follows: 6 "(b) Each officer or member receiving basic compensa7 tion immediately prior to the effective date of the salary 8 schedule in section 101 (b) of such title at one of the sched9 uled service rates of a salary class in the salary schedule in 10 section 101 (a) of such title shall receive a rate of basic 11 compensation at the corresponding scheduled service step in effect on and after such date." 12 13 SEC. 103. Section 202 of the District of Columbia Police 14 and Firemen's Salary Act of 1958 (D.C. Code, section 15 4-825) is amended to read as follows: 16 "SEC. 202. Each officer or member of the Metropolitan 17 Police force, Executive Protective Service, and U.S. Park 18 Police force assigned to perform the duty of a helicopter 19 pilot on or after the effective date of title I of the District 20 of Columbia Police and Firemen's Salary Act Amendments. 21 of 1972 shall receive in addition to his basic compensation 1 the amount of $2,100 per year so long as he remains in such 2 assignment." 3 SEC. 104. Section 203 of the District of Columbia Police 4 and Firemen's Salary Act of 1958 (D.C. Code, sec. 4-826) 5 is amended to read as follows: 6 "SEC. 203. The aide to the Fire Marshal shall be in 7 cluded as a fire inspector in class 2." 8 SEC. 105. Section 204 of the District of Columbia Police 9 and Firemen's Salary Act of 1958 (D.C. Code, sec. 4–826 10 (a)), approved August 1, 1958 (Public Law 85-584), as 11 added October 24, 1962 (Public Law 87-882) is hereby 12 repealed. 13 SEC. 106. Section 302 of the District of Columbia 14 Police and Firemen's Salary Act of 1958 (D.C. Code, sec. 15 4-828) is amended to read as follows: 16 "(a) The Commissioner of the District of Columbia, in 17 the case of the Metropolitan Police force and the Fire De 18 partment of the District of Columbia, the Secretary of the 19 Treasury, in the case of the Executive Protective Service, 20 and the Secretary of the Interior, in the case of the United 21 States Park Police force, are hereby authorized to establish 22 and determine, from time to time, the positions in Salary 23 Classes 1, 2, and 4 to be included as technicians. 24 "(b) Each officer or member who immediately prior 25 to the effective date of the District of Columbia Police and |
