9 1 Firemen's Salary Act Amendments of 1972 was receiving a 2 rate of pay in subclass (b) of Class 1 or 2 or subclass (c) 3 of Class 4, or was performing the duty of a dog handler in 4 Class 4, or whose position is determined to be a technician 5 under (a) above shall receive on or after such date in addi6 tion to his scheduled rate of basic compensation an additional 7 $635 per annum. Further, at such time as the rates of basic compensation in Section 101 (b) become effective such 9 additional rate shall be increased to $680 per annum. 8 10 11 "(c) Each officer or member who immediately prior to the effective date of the District of Columbia Police and 12 Firemen's Salary Act Amendments of 1972 was assigned 13 as a Detective Sergeant in subclass (b) of Class 4 shall re14 ceive on or after such effective date in addition to his basic 15 compensation an additional $500 per annum, so long as he 16 remains in such assignment." 17 SEC. 107. Section 303 of the District of Columbia Police 18 and Firemen's Salary Act of 1958 (D.C. Code, sec. 4–829) 19 20 21 228 is amended by striking all existing provisions in the section and inserting in lieu thereof the following: "SEC. 303. (a) Subsequent to the salary adjustment provided in Sections 101 and 102 of the District of Columbia 23 Police and Firemen's Salary Act Amendments of 1972, each 24 officer and member, if he has a current performance rating 10 1 of "satisfactory" or better, shall have his service step ad2 justed in the following manner: "(1) Each officer and member in service step 1, or 2, or 3 of Class 1 shall be advanced in compensation successively to the next higher service step at the beginning of the first pay period immediately subsequent to the completion of fifty-two calender weeks of active service; "(2) Each officer and member in service step 4, or 5 of Class 1 shall be advanced in compensation successively to the next higher service step at the beginning of the first pay period immediately subsequent to the completion of one hundred and four calendar weeks of active service; "(3) Each officer and member in service step 6, or 7, or 8 of Class 1 shall be advanced in compensation successively to the next higher service step at the beginning of the first pay period immediately subsequent to the completion of one hundred and fifty-six calendar weeks of active service; "(4) Each officer and member in classes 2 through 11 who has not attained the maximum service step rate of compensation for the rank or title in which he is placed shall be advanced in compensation successively to the next higher service step rate for such rank or title 77-7360-72-2 11 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 at the beginning of the first pay period immediately subsequent to the completion of one hundred and four calendar weeks of active service, except that in the case of an officer or member in service step 4, or 5, or 6 in class 2 or 3; service step 4 or 5 of class 4 and service step 4 of class 5 he shall be advanced successively to the next higher service step at the beginning of the first pay period immediately subsequent to the com pletion of one hundred and fifty-six calendar weeks of active service; "(b) As used in this title the term "calendar week of 12 active service" includes all periods of leave with pay, and 13 periods of nonpay status which do not cumulatively equal one basic workweek." 14 15 SEC. 108. Section 304 of the District of Columbia Police 16 and Firemen's Salary Act of 1958 (D.C. Code, sec. 4–830) 17 is amended to read as follows: "SEC. 304 (a) Except as otherwise provided in subsection (b) of this section, any officer or member who is promoted or transferred to a higher salary class shall receive basic compensation at the lowest scheduled rate of such higher salary class which exceeds his existing rate of basic compensation by not less than one step increase of the next higher step of the salary class from which he is promoted or transferred. 12 1 "(b) Any officer or member receiving additional com 2 3 pensation as provided in section 302 of this Act who is promoted or transferred to a higher salary class shall receive 4 basic compensation at the lowest scheduled rate of such 5 higher class which exceeds his existing scheduled rate of 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 basic compensation by at least the sum of one step increase 18 of the next higher step of the salary class from which he is promoted or transferred and the amount of such additional compensation." 19 SEC. 109. Section 305 of the District of Columbia Police and Firemen's Salary Act of 1958 (D.C. Code, sec. 20 4-831) is amended by (1) striking out "White House 21 Police force" and inserting in lieu thereof "Executive Pro tective Service", (2) striking out "Commissioners" and 22 inserting in lieu thereof "Commissioner", and (3) striking 23 out "or Sub-Class" immediately after "Class". SEC. 110. Section 401 of the Police and Firemen's Salary Act of 1958 (D.C. Code, sec. 4-832) is amended by striking everything in the section and substituting in lieu thereof the following: "SEC. 401. (a) In recognition of long and faithful service, each officer and member in the active service on or after the effective date of title I of the District of Columbia 24 Police and Firemen's Salary Act Amendments of 1972 shall 25 receive an amount in addition to the rate of basic compen 13 1 sation prescribed in the salary schedules in section 101 of 2 this Act to be known as a total service longevity rate. Such 3 total service longevity rate shall be established as follows: "(1) Each officer and member in the active serv 4 ice shall receive 5 percent additional compensation, computed on service step 1 of the class he occupies upon completion of at least fifteen but less than twenty years of continuous service; 10 percent additional compensation, computed on service step 1 of the class he occupies, upon completion of at least twenty but less than twenty-five years of continuous service; 15 percent additional compensation, computed on service step 1 of the class he occupies, upon completion of at least twenty-five but less than thirty years of continuous service; 20 percent additional compensation computed on service step 1 of the class he occupies, upon completion of thirty years of continuous service. For purposes of this paragraph, continuous service as an officer or member includes service in the Armed Forces of the United States but excludes any period of time deter mined not to have been satisfactory service. (2) Each officer and member shall accrue total service longevity compensation as provided in the first paragraph of this subsection so long as he remains in the active service. Such compensation shall be paid in the |
