The

purpose of the meeting of the Subcommittee on Business, Commerce and Fiscal Affairs of the District is the consideration of H.R. 12710, the Police and Firemen's pay bill.

To amend the District of Columbia Police and Firemen's Salary

Act of 1958 to increase salaries, and for other purposes.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa2 tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SEC. 101. Section 101 of the District of Columbia Police 6 and Firemen's Salary Act of 1958 (D.C. Code, sec. 4-823) 7 is amended to read as follows:

8 "SEC. 101. That (a) effective on the first day of the first

pay period beginning on or after January 1, 1972, the an10 nual rate of basic compensation of the officers and mem

1 bers of the Metropolitan Police force and the Fire

2 Department of the District of Columbia shall be fixed in

3 accordance with the following schedule of rates:

SEC. 102. (a) Subsection (a) of section 201 of the Dis

2 trict of Columbia Police and Firemen's Salary Act of 1958

3 (D.C. Code, sec. 4-824 (a)) is amended to read as follows:

“(a) The rates of basic compensation of officers and 5 members in service on the effective date of the salary schedule 6 in section 101 (a) title I of the District of Columbia Police 7 and Firemen's Salary Act Amendments of 1972 shall be 8 adjusted as follows:

9 "(1) Each officer or member receiving basic compensa10 tion immediately prior to such effective date at one of the 11 scheduled service rates of subclass (a) or (b) of salary class 12 1 in the salary schedule in section 101 of this Act in effect 13 on the day next preceding such effective date shall be placed 14 in and receive basic compensation in salary class 1 in the 15 salary schedule in effect on and after such date, and each 16 shall be placed at the respective service step in which he was 17 serving immediately prior to such date. Each officer or mem18 ber receiving basic compensation immediately prior to such 19 date at one of the scheduled longevity rates of subclass (a)

or (b) of salary class 1 in the salary schedule in section 101 21 of this Act in effect on the day next preceding such effective 22 date shall be placed in and receive basic compensation in 23 salary class 1 in the salary schedule in effect on and after
