CHANTREY. LADY LOUISA JANE RUSSELL. This pleasing statue represents lady Louisa Jane Russell, an infant daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Bedford, in the act of fondling a bird which she presses to her bosom in a transport of joy : the action of the whole figure is simple and natural, and in a high degree expressive of infantine grace and innocence. It is executed in white marble, and its manual excellence is equally admirable with the taste and purity of the design: it is in the possession of his grace the duke of Bedford. |
