We'll pay $10,000 IN CASH to anyone who can prove this
isn't so! Oil heat and hot water costs less for a house than gas.
Don't let any builder or gas company tell you different. Here are
actual figures to dramatize the fact you save with modern oil.

Anyone trying to collect this $10 000 offer must contend with these scientific figures. They demonstrate that oil is cheaper.
They are based on official gas company rates and the average price of oil in New York City and Long Island.

In Brooklyn and Southern Queens Here's what $20 buys:

OIL

In Bronx, Manhattan
and Northern Queens

Here's what $20 buys:

Realize this! Your money buys "heat"-not just fuel. With gas or oil, it's the number of heat units you get that counts. Heat units from both are called British Thermal Units (BTU's). Burn a cubic foot of gas and you get 1000 BTU's, Burn a gallon of oil and you get 140,000 BTU's. For $20 you get so many gallons of oil and so many cubic feet of gas. Then, it's easy to figure the total BTU's you get from $20 worth of each fuel. This $10,000 challenge applies to NY.C. and Long Island, is limited to June 30, 1968 and is based on the price situation as of April 1, 1968.

We're not ashamed of being cheap.

when you switch to gas.

You just can't get heating fuel any cheaper than natural gas from Brooklyn Union.

What a gallon of #2 oil does for about 17¢, gas does for only 14¢.

So if you use 1000 gallons of oil a year, you'll save about $30 with gas. Plus about $10 more you now spend for power to operate your burner motor.

You'll also save money on things like oil tank insurance, service contracts and burner repairs. (Did you know that gas heating equipment has no complicated moving parts to wear out or make noise?)

All of which helps explain why homeowners in our area are changing from oil to gas heat at the rate of 239 to 1.

But why not find out for yourself, with a year's free trial of gas heating equipment? We install it. Free. You use it for a year and pay only for the gas you use. Then, if you're not convinced gas is everything we say, we'll take our equipment out. All free. And what could be cheaper than that? Call Brooklyn Union's "Heatline": 643-3200. Or contact your licensed plumber.

"For 2 cents
I'd switch to
gas heat!"

We'll give you three.

You say you've had it with your old oil burner? The conkouts? The cold? The endless service calls? The bottomless tank?

Gas not only saves you all that aggravation. It saves you more than three cents for every gallon of oil you now burn.

Plus the $10 a year you spend for power to run your oil burner motor. Plus those hidden costs for tank

insurance and service contracts.

For an average private home, savings could run about $50 a year.

Gas conversion equipment costs only $249 for one and two family homes, complete with normal installation. And we'll let you try it in your home for a year. Free. You pay only for the gas you use. Then take up to 5 more years to pay the low conversion price on low monthly terms.

For details, call the Brooklyn. Union "Heatline": 643-3200. Or contact your licensed plumber.
