A moderately high mean incidence was observed for Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania. In 16 states, no cases were reported for the past 5 years. In 1980, 18 common-source outbreaks involving at least 2 cases each, accounted for 58.4% of all cases. The majority of infections were acquired from pork products purchased from commercial sources; however, 12 cases were acquired from the meat of wild animals.
