Viral hepatitis continues to be one of the 4 most frequently reported infectious diseases in the United States. The total number of viral hepatitis cases reported for 1980 was higher than the 2 previous years. Increases were observed for both hepatitis B and hepatitis, unspecified, while there was a slight decrease in the number of cases reported for hepatitis A. Persons 15-39 years of age were the group most affected by all types of hepatitis.
