This publication sets out a comparative analysis of regulatory frameworks relating to water resources management in 16 jurisdictions, including Brazil, China, Costa Rica, the European Union, France, Germany, Mexico, Morocco, Senegal, South Africa, and Vietnam. It traces the relevance and importance assigned to water legislation by different international conferences and forums, including the Mar del Plata, Dublin and Rio conferences, as well as summarising guidance on preparing legislation. It then goes on to consider the key elements that need to be addressed in any effective regulatory framework for water resources management and to identify emerging trends in water legislation.
