RICH DIRECTED attention to the importance of the Board of Trustees readjusting the officers to correspond with the various departments to be created.

As there was no objection to this, it was so ordered.

ON MOTION, the Board of Trustees adjourned to meet immediately after the General Session on Friday, October 26.

EIGHTH SESSION.

The Board of Trustees met in East Ball Room at 12:30 A. M. and was called to order by the President, William H. G. Logan.

There were present Barber, King, Boardman, Williams, Ward, Burkhart, Grieves, Hartzell, Vignes, and White.

THE SECRETARY stated that the matters of business to come before the Board of Trustees were the appointment of the Ad Interim Committee, the Local Committee of Arrangements, the Clinic Committee, the time of holding the next annual meeting, etc.

VIGNES MOVED that John P. Buckley of Chicago, be made a member of the Ad Interim Committee. Motion seconded by Grieves and carried.

IT WAS MOVED and seconded that Burkhart and Hartzell be made members of the Ad Interim Committee. Carried.

The other members of the Ad Interim Committee are the President and Secretary.

BURKHART MOVED that the President appoint the Local Committee of Arrangements, the Clinic Committee and all of the officers required by the creation of the Departments and such special committees as are authorized by the House of Delegates. Seconded and carried.

THE SECRETARY MOVED that the time of holding the next annual meeting be left to the Ad Interim Committee and the local committee. Seconded by Grieves and carried.

THE SECRETARY MOVED that the names of all essayists and clinicians

must first be submitted to the President for his approval before they are placed on the official program of the National Dental Association. Motion seconded by Grieves and carried.

BURKHART MOVED that the Treasurer of the National Dental Association be bonded in the sum of $10,000.00 with some assurity company which meets with the approval of the President and Secretary, and that the expense incurred by the same be borne by the Association. Seconded and carried.

BURKHART MOVED that $5,000.00 be invested in Liberty Bonds in the Surgeon-General's office; that $5,000.00 be placed with the Huntington (Indiana) bank; that $4,000.00 be placed with the Holston National Bank, of Knoxville, Tennessee, and that $3,000.00 be placed thru the Toledo Bank. Motion seconded and carried.

THE SECRETARY brought up the matter of payment of bills incurred for conducting the New York meeting.

BURKHART MOVED that all unpaid bills for this meeting be presented to Barber and King for approval. Seconded and carried.

After some discussion with reference to whether an itemized statement of accounts should appear in The Journal of the National Dental Association, Burkhart moved that only a general statement of receipts and disbursements be published in The Journal.* Seconded and carried.

The minutes of the previous and this meeting were read and approved.

As there was no further business to come before the meeting,

MINUTES OF THE RESEARCH COMMISSION MEETING.

THE PRESIDENT, Wm. H. G. Logan, called a special meeting of the Research Commission members, Board of Trustees of the National Dental Association, in the East Ball Room, Hotel Astor, October 26th, at 1 P. M.

Those present were Price, Hartzell,

Logan, King, Vignes, Grieves, and Burkhart.

UPON MOTION made and seconded, action relative to the employment of a Research Director for the Research Institute was deferred until further information is attained.

The meeting adjourned.

W. L. FICKES, Pittsburgh, Pa., read a paper entitled: "The Porcelain Inlay; Its Strength and Durability." The paper was discussed by A. L. LeGro, Detroit, Mich.; C. K. Buell, Buffalo, N. Y., and W. A. Capon, Philadelphia, Pa. The discussion was closed by Dr. Fickes.

J. M. WALLS, St. Paul, Minn., read a paper entitled "Present Day Tendencies in Operative Dentistry." This paper was

discussed by A. H. Hipple, Omaha, Nebr.; A. R. Starr, New York City; J. J. Travis, Ann Arbor, Mich; James M. Prime, of Omaha, Nebr.; P. B. Wright, Milwaukee, Wis.; J. Melville Thompson, Detroit, Mich.; Fred E. Hart, San Francisco, Cal., and J. Alden Mills, New York City. The discussion was closed by Dr. Walls.

The second session was called to order Wednesday, October 24th, at 1:30 P. M., in the East Ball Room, by the Chairman, Dr. Coolidge.

FRED E. HART, San Francisco, Cal., read a paper entitled: "Some Neglected Operative Perquisites." This paper was discussed by J. D. Towner, Memphis, Tenn.; F. W. Gethro, Chicago, Ill.; C. O. Simpson, St. Louis, Mo.; James M. Prime,

Omaha, Nebr. The discussion was closed by Dr. Hart.

C. C. VOGT, A. B. A. M., Ph. D., Mellon Institute of Industrial Research, Pittsburgh, Pa. This paper was discussed by Frank O. Hetrick, Ottawa, Kansas; C. E. Jones, Chicago, Ill.; W. Clyde Davis, Lincoln, Nebraska; Wilson Zerfing, Philadelphia, and W. V. B. Ames, Chicago, Ill. The discussion was closed by Dr. Vogt.

In the absence of Virgil Loeb, Secretary, M. E. Vance, Vice-Chairman, was elected Secretary Pro Tem.

BENJAMIN H. SCHLOMOVITZ, Chicago, Ill., was absent and his paper was read by Edgar D. Coolidge, Chicago, Ill. The title of his paper was "The Action of Emetin on the White Blood Cells." As it was a preliminary report it was not open for discussion.

ELMER S. BEST, Minneapolis, Minn.,

read a paper entitled "Is Overfilling Root Canals a Safe Procedure?" The paper was accompanied by numerous slides, and was discussed by Fred W. Gethro, Chicago, Ill.

The meeting was called to order by the chairman, L. E. Custer, Dayton, O., at 2:30 P. M.

DR. CUSTER announced with great regret the death of B. L. Shobe, Secretary of this Section. Sidney J. Knowles, Chicago, was appointed as secretary for this session.

J. E. HINKINS, Chicago, Ill., read a paper entitled: "The Chemical Action of Soil Bacteria on Calcium Phosphates with the Chemical Analysis of the Human Teeth."

J. LEON WILLIAMS, and Archie McAlpin, Bradford, Pa., asked some questions. Dr. Hinkins closed the discussion.

DAYTON DUNBAR CAMPBELL, Kansas City, Mo., read a paper entitled: "Why Measurements of the Mandible,

Tracings of the Condyles, the Construc-
tion of Hypothetical Triangles, and the
use of the Face Bow are all non-essen-
tial in the Construction of Dentures pos-
sessing the Highest Degree of Effi-
ciency."

This paper was discussed by George
W. Clapp, New York City, Martin
Dewey, Chicago, Ill., Harry J. Horner,
Pittsburgh, Pa.; George H. Wilson, Cleve-
land, Ohio, Rupert Hall, Chicago, Ill.; M.

closed the discussion.

JAMES SONNETT GREENE, M. D.,
New York City, Director of the New

York Clinic for Speech Defects, read a
paper entitled: "The Dentist and the
Clinic for Speech Defects."

MILO HELLMAN, New York City,
showed some slides to illustrate Dr.
Greene's paper.

The election of officers resulted as fol-

and L. E. Custer. The discussion was
closed by Dr. Nies.

CALVIN S. CASE, Chicago, Ill., read a
paper entitled "Open Bite Malocclusion,"
which was discussed by Drs. F. C. Kem-
ple, New York City; R. Ottolengui, New
York City; F. M. Casto, Cleveland; Hart
J. Goslee, Chicago, Ill.; F .T. Van Woert,
Brooklyn, N. Y.. and discussion closed
by the author of the paper.
