The history of this port antedates the Revolution. Subsequent to the Revolution, when the customs service was set up in 1790, Wilmington was constituted the port of entry, with a resident Collector for the District of Wilmington. The port was blockaded in 1861, closed by proclamation of the President, April 11, 1865, and reopened to foreign commerce by
