OFFICE OF NARCOTIC AGENT

This office was established about 1915 for enforcement of the federal narcotic laws. It has operated under jurisdiction of the following agencies of the Department of the Treasury: the Narcotics Section of the Miscellaneous Division of the Bureau of Internal Revenue, 1915-1920; the Division of Narcotics of the Prohibition Unit, 1920-1927; the Division of Narcotics in the Bureau of Prohibition, 1927-1930; and the Bureau of Narcotics, 1930 to date. It has jurisdiction over counties in the southern portion of the state, counties in the northern portion coming under jurisdiction of the narcotic agent at Greensboro. The agent reports to the Supervisor for District 5, at Baltimore, Md. During several months of 1933 and 1934, the office was located in the First National Bank Building, pending an addition to the Federal Building.
